Reiki-My View

I was a Medical Assistant looking for an answer

I have always searched out the “real thing” to learn from, no matter what I have learned. It’s my personal preference.  Many people don’t care, but to me, it has always seemed to just make sense that the closer you can get to the source of anything,  the more you will find that which you seek.  Many years ago, in my search for answers about the mind/body connection, I looked first to the medical community, since that is where my roots are. Those were the early days of Deepak Chopra at Sharp Hospital in San Diego. His first book, Creating Health, hurt my brain as he brought ideas into the open I already had  but was ashamed to discuss with anyone I knew in the field of medicine.

Healing touch was my transition

I took some introductory Healing Touch there from Dorothea Hover, a nurse and psychologist, who became one of the founders of the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology. She is the real thing, and her credentials gave me the nerve at that time  to move from traditional Western medicine to working with that not seen but felt.

I continued to search

A little later I attended a lecture on a more esoteric method of energy work.  I attended a demonstration on Reiki that was being given by one of Mrs. Takata’s third  generation Reiki Masters, back in the day when a few of the original Masters Mrs. Takata initiated were still doing the work and few people had heard of Reiki. There was only a couple of books written on the subject to glean information from. I was very nervous, even though this woman appeared to have “credentials”, which for me means she was close to the source, because it was my first foray into anti-matter medicine. Reiki at the time was exclusively given through initiation, an energy transmission  made from master to student through physical contact. I was more afraid to think that something like that could actually happen than  being scammed!

A miracle happened in front of my eyes

A woman came in to attend the demonstration who had been stung by a bee earlier in the day. Her face was incredibly swollen around the eye and down the cheek. One of the students of the speaker laid her hands on this woman, and in 20 minutes I saw the swelling completely leave her face. All that was left was a pink bump at the site of the sting. My skepticism turned to belief and I signed up immediately.

My life as a practitioner

Reiki became a part of who I am. The admonitions of Reiki- so simple and beautiful, fill my heart to this day. Just for today- do not worry or hold anger. Honor your teachers and elders. Be grateful. The act of reaching out your hand to place on another in peace and loving kindness takes a lot of courage, even when you know it is not about your abilities, but your willingness to allow love through. If the world honored the Reiki precepts and reached out to each other in love, it would be a different place. I reach my hand out every day in friendship and love. I think it has made me a better person. It’s a joy to share it with others.

My lineage

What flows through me flows in the traditional way, through initiation and transmission of energy from  the ancestors. My Reiki family heritage:

Mary McFadyen, Mrs. Takata, Dr. Hayashi, Dr. Usui.

I will come to your area to do a class for a group of 15 minimum.
